Teacher expertise and credentials
I have 20 years of experience as a writer and editor for newspapers, consumer magazines, and nonprofits in the largest markets in the U.S. and internationally. I've served as a consulting editor and copy editor for award-winning novelists, essayists, and poets in literary publishing and journalism, and have copyedited books on academic topics including classical music, military history, psychology, and social sciences. I served as poetry editor of Rathalla Review, the literary magazine of my MFA Creative Writing program, and my creative nonfiction, critical essays, poems, and feature articles have been published in a number of small presses and magazines including Women's Health, American Photo, and others.
As a teacher, I've held a variety of roles in diverse settings. I've served as an adjunct professor in communications at Rosemont College (Pennsylvania, US) and as a workshop facilitator in life writing, memoir, and creative writing for lifelong learners from ages 8 to 80. I'm especially proud of my work with kids in underserved communities and with students with special learning needs, including ADHD, gifted, ASD, and 2E. I consider it my responsibility and privilege to discern how the person in front of me thinks, learns, and feels, and then to inspire and challenge them to achieve their goals with empathy, candor, and humor.
