Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this 1:1 class, students will be tutored in the topic areas of Math, Reading, Writing, Science or Social Studies. The teacher will prepare materials each week for the topics or standards the parent requests. Some tools used to engage students include songs, games, discussions, hands-on activities, online manipulatives, slide shows, worksheets and videos. Each lesson will be catered to the needs of the student. Students will be expected to actively participate and communicate with the teacher each class.

Some areas of study to consider for tutoring are:

Math-place value, measurement and data, multiplication and division, addition and subtraction, geometry, story problems, multi-step problems, fractions

Writing-paragraphs, opinion essays, how-to paragraphs, informational writing, persuasive writing, editing

Reading-vocabulary, comprehension skills, phonics, spelling, reading fiction and nonfiction texts

Science-weather, life cycles, solar system, energy, rocks and minerals

Social Studies-history, government, economics, geography

SAMPLE LESSON
Topic: Multiplication

In this lesson, students will learn their 2 facts. We will begin by skip-counting by 2's. Then we will use cereal or beads to create equal groups and use repeated addition to help us multiply. Students will draw models to illustrate their thinking. Following that we will play a game and make a "cootie catcher" to practice multiplying by 2.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to learn and understand the Common Core Standards that are requested by the parent.

Parental Guidance
I will use Nearpod in some classes to provide virtual field trips, slide shows and games to extend learning. Canva will be used at times for slide show presentations. We will use YouTube occasionally for songs and to see places we are studying. In the areas of Math and Reading, I like to use Room Recess for games to reinforce skills learned in class.
Supply List
Handouts will be sent each week along with a list of any materials they will need for that lesson.
