Great for all levels of writers, in this guided writing exercise, students will take an imaginary walk through a forest and asked to describe things along the way. When an emphasis on writing fluency, description, and simply getting their ideas to page, students will not have to worry about grammar, spelling, or other writing conventions. After completion, we will discuss symbolism and archetypes and how they affect our writing. Students will then share their writing with the class and...
Students will practice writing fluency, narration, and imagery. Students will learn to identify symbols and archetypes and explain the differences between the two. Students will be able to reflect on and analyze their own writing as well as the writing of others.
I have been teaching high school English and coaching speech and debate for almost 20 years. This has always been one of my most popular writing assignments and serves as a great introduction to my teaching style.
Students should be prepared to write with whatever materials they choose, be it pen and paper or typing on a computer. It is up to them, as long as they are prepared to write.
