In this one on one, weekly lesson time, I meet cello students where they are; from the very first note to preparing for state level competitions and everywhere in between. I've listed the Suzuki cello book 1 as a good place to start but since I am here to support your student on their musical journey, any cello book or piece(s) of music will be fine. I have been teaching cello at the competition level for several years now but I also teach very beginners as well. My focus, no matter where students are is their bow technique, note reading, advancement in ability and skill. While that is always the goal, I can teach students a whole new separate set of music pieces to move them up or I can support a student and help them with the music that is sent home from school or orchestra. Under my direction, students will cover: Bowing techniques-legato, staccato, stronger bow hold, bowing in relationship to your core and sticky bow. For beginner students, musical repertoire builds from simple Twinkle Twinkle to medium level Perpetual Motion to challenging Minuet 2 in first position in Suzuki book 1. Those students at an intermediate level will cover classical composer's music like Paganini. Songs for first time competition include Humoresque and Minuet. These songs will showcase the intermediate student's ability to move to second position. We will also cover key changes within a song. Advanced cello students will be encouraged to take deep dives into solo pieces like Cello Suite and Vivaldi's Four Seasons. At the advanced level, students will learn audition techniques and what is expected when applying for orchestras, scholarships and high school/college entry level of performance.
