This private, 1 to 1 ongoing tutoring class meets weekly to help your middle school learner with reading, writing, and/or grammar provided by a caring and supportive, certified English teacher.

Class experience

US Grade 6 - 8
Students can improve their reading, writing, grammar, and study skills. I will use Common Core state standards and other benchmarks to help them to level up their learning progress. This is an individualized course, but here are the types of things we could do:

Week 1: Getting to Know you and your writing needs - short writing sample - I will give them a Google link for a shared document that they can type into. I will then send you the document with my recommendations.

Week 2: Getting to Know you and your reading needs - short reading and comprehension
questions via Pear Deck and Google

Week 3: One grammar/writing skill that you need help with or parent/learner choice

Week 4: One reading/study skill that you need help with or parent/learning choice - use a graphic organizer to take notes for reading (Google link to a file I've created for your learner)

Each week, we work on a skill your child needs or a homework assignment they need help with for school as long as it includes reading or writing. My area of specialty is middle school English Language Arts.

RELUCTANCE TO TRY
I can encourage ALL middle school learners to try different strategies and activities. However, learners can go through different stages throughout their lives, and middle school is a very emotional and experimental time for them.

If your learner is unwilling to try any of the strategies or activities to help them improve, there is nothing I can do for them. I care about ALL students, and do not want them to suffer through something that they just cannot handle at this moment.

So, if this should happen, I will message you and let you know what is happening. Perhaps another tutor may be a better fit for your learner. See note above about reading specialists.

REFUNDS/CANCELLATIONS
Refunds are only given if I have been contacted by you, the parent, or the learner within a 24 HOUR notice.

I do not refund if I do not have a message from you within 24 hours. Everyone’s time is valuable, including mine. I can; however, provide you with the learning materials that I planned to help the student with that week. Or we can use those at the next LIVE lesson.

I DO message parents when a learner does not appear in the Zoom meeting within a couple of minutes of the scheduled time. I give 10 minutes of wait time before I sign off, and then I message again to let you know that your learner has missed their tutoring session.

If you CANNOT give a 24 HOUR notice, message me, and I will try to fit you into a time that I have during that week, but it is not guaranteed.

When a learner has canceled 3 TIMES in a row, I will message you that I am unsubscribing your learner so that your money is not wasted further. Sometimes our lives get super busy, and you may not be aware that this has occurred. However, Outschool will email all of my messages to you.

So, PLEASE check your emails from Outschool because that is where the messages go. Quote directly from Outschool information: "Please note that the Conversations feature will track read and unread messages from within the Outschool platform, and will sync with your personal email. For example, if you read and respond to messages via your email, those messages will show as Read from Conversations."

I will also suggest to your learner that they put a reminder in their phone or on their phone calendar or computer calendar to remind them of tutoring sessions.

This would need to be a conversation that we would need to have about what materials your child needs help with, especially if it is for their Language Arts class.
