Let me take the pressure off of you as we join forces to create a personalized plan that will set your child up for success at school. I provide personalized 1:1 tutoring and homework help for students in grades 4-10. I will work with your learner to help improve study skills such as time management, organization, and note-taking. Additionally, I can help with specific assignments if needed. Learners will be engaged and interact with me during the entire session as I ask leading questions to help them not just learn the topic at hand, but learn how to find the answer on their own. I am an understanding, fun, and encouraging teacher that understands the pressures that school can put on learners and families. I provide study skills, time management, and organizational tips, and will break down concerns in a way that is easy for your student to understand. I will provide detailed feedback at the end of each session. You tell me the needs of your learner and I will do the rest! Some common requests: *Homework help in all subjects. *Projects and papers *Study, organization, and time-management skills *Student Advocacy *Test Preparation *Editing *How to Pay Attention in Class *Remediation or Enrichment in the core subject areas. Hello! My name is Laura Smith and I am passionate about learning! I have over 20 years as a classroom teacher and have been tutoring middle and high school students for over 4 years. I offer a variety of classes to help with study skills, homework, social skills, and even a class on bike safety!
Professional Background:
I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience ranging from elementary to high school. I earned my BSEd degree at the University of Missouri, Columbia. I taught with Columbia Public Schools and Liberty Public Schools since 1992. I currently am tutoring in my home in the evenings and during the day on Outschool.
I will provide a safe learning space where your student will be exposed to skills that will help them become a lifelong learner. I believe that all children learn at different speeds when their brain is ready and receptive to new information. Learning HOW to learn is fundamental to success. It is my goal that students leave a session with me feeling successful and confident!
Most of my classes are related to study skills and how to be the best student you can be. I also have a bike safety class and an ongoing choose your own book club!
Fun fact: My husband and I lived in England for a year in 2004. We enrolled our children in school there where I gained first-hand experience about schooling in another culture. We were able to travel throughout most of Europe while there which provided our family with valuable memories. I currently lead international group tours and travel around the United States in our campervan, Toaster.
