Class Experience
Stardew Valley is a cooperative game based on farming, mining and socializing. The model of this 1:1 class is based on the successes we have had in our 1:1 connection classes. Some learners are able to play a video game and socialize without direct interaction. This game gives us the opportunity to try this out! This is a PC/Mac/Linux game that has to be purchased and installed before the class. This server only connects with PC/Mac/Linux users, no switch players unfortunately. If you would like to join the class and just play on your own device and enjoy the conversation that is ok too. I will create a private game and share the IP to join. If your learner would rather be the one to do this, please review these instructions on how to make sure someone can join your Stardew World. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Multiplayer Session topics will be learner-directed. We might go fishing together or mining! We could attend the Spring Dance. There are lots of activities in this game and it allows us to visit and chat and create our little farm. There is much that is co-operative in this game. Let's have a relaxed hangout and maybe catch a sunfish or two! See you in town, Ms. Yvonne (in game my name is Evie) We are ESL Friendly, CEFR Level A2, B and C. *This course directly relates to B.C. Curricular Competencies for ELA Grades 4-12 under Comprehend and connect (reading, listening, viewing) Create and communicate (writing, speaking, representing).
Learning Goals
Learners will practice their social skills and play a relaxing gathering/farming/fishing sim.
Other Details
Learning Needs
We are a Neuroaffirming Organization! We support learners with different needs and meet them where they are at. We are experienced scribes and enjoy exploring different approaches to writing and creating for each learner.
Parental Guidance
Once registered, you will be given an IP to connect to in your Co-op play LAN game setting when starting the game in a private message. The game will run during class. After class, as required by Outschool, the server will not be accessible outside of class.
No external Gamertags will be shared in class as the name you create for this game will be the only thing visible to the other players. No inappropriate names please. If anyone shares a gamertag or external contact info in chat, it will be deleted.
Supply List
PC/Linux/Mac computer running Stardew Valley with the ability to connect to a LAN game. A reasonable internet connection (mine is satellite and it works fine with little lag).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
