What's included

4 live meetings
3 in-class hours
Homework
I am happy to suggest additional practice assignments as well as teach you how to do some of that practice with your child so that they continue to improve even when not in a session with me.
Assessment
Ongoing assessment will be provided every session for decoding tutoring (or every other session depending on skills/age/context). Assessment is a key part of tracking improvement in decoding skills. Comprehension tutoring clients will also be provided with assessment information although less often as it usually takes quite a few more sessions to see such improvement.

As an experienced and certified special education teacher, special education director at a school, certified Literacy Specialist and an experienced tutor I am looking forward to working with your child to help them make significant progress with any reading challenges they face. Trained in the Orton-Gillingham methodology I also have experience using the Wilson program as well as putting together my own, more specialized, and individualized programming for students struggling with decoding.

I am also very experienced in helping students with comprehension issues, using both published programs (Visualizing and Verbalizing) as well as more individualized strategies.

Motivation is often a point of conflict with students with decoding and comprehension issues, making reading seem very challenging and unrewarding. I pride myself on learning about what makes each student 'tick' and honing my work with them in those areas. Additionally, I make it possible for students to see their progress, which creates motivation and the desire to keep working.

Note:
Please be aware that unless you have a current assessment of your child's decoding and/or comprehension skills (whichever area(s) are required) the first session MUST be booked for an assessment. Without specific data as to what a student is struggling with, I would be poking around in the dark and wasting your money. Any tutor you work with should always request the same, otherwise, they are just guessing at what your child needs. If you have any questions about this, please message me - I am happy to explain what assessment strategies I employ and how I make the best use of them later on.
Learning Goals
Goals will be individualized based on your child's needs. I will absolutely provide you with the goals we will be working on as well as the ongoing assessment so that you can see/monitor your child's progress.
