I do not have an age limit on this class and can assist students of all ages with their reading and writing needs. I am a special education teacher and can assist students with special needs and students with IEP's. Summer 2023 Tutoring: Let’s dive into reading comprehension and writing skills this summer! I work full-time as a special education teacher and have a Master’s Degree in Special Education. I love to teach reading and writing skills! Pick one of the three books and have weekly meetings to discuss the book and write based on the book. (If your child needs a book at a lower reading level, I am willing to accommodate) Holes by Louis Sachar Divergent by Veronica Roth The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Each week, we will have an assigned amount of chapters, comprehension-based activities, grammar skills and practice, and a weekly writing lesson and assignment based on the book. By the end of the summer, your child will feel more confident with reading comprehension, answering comprehension-based questions, editing sentences, using proper grammar, and writing. We will cover creative writing, summaries, narratives, opinion, and argumentative/persuasive paragraphs or essays based on their grade or ability level. When writing, I will teach your child the skills to organize their thoughts and give them easy and effective ways to organize a paragraph or an essay. We will work on topic sentences, thesis statements, intro, body, and conclusion based on their grade or ability level. Your child will go into the next school year feeling ready to take on their English language arts class! You determine how many days a week you would like to meet: Scheduling is flexible and can be worked around your schedule. The class is listed as a one time but can be tweaked accordingly. I charge $40 for an hour-long session My availability is Monday through Thursday. I live in the central time zone. My availability for morning and afternoon sessions starts June 12th, but I am available evenings and weekends prior to that date. I will NOT be available for live meetings June 15, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 & 26, but I will still be able to provide resources and assignments. I return to school on August 28th
Learning Goals
Your child will learn the following skills based on their grade or ability level: reading comprehension, answering comprehension-based questions, editing sentences, using proper grammar, and writing creative writing prompts, summaries, narratives, opinion pieces, and argumentative/persuasive paragraphs or essays. The skills taught with writing will include topic sentences, thesis statements, intro, body, and conclusion.
