US Grade 7 - 10
This is a private one-on-one class. Each session will be tailored to the student to ensure that their individual learning needs are met. The first class will be used to set goals and expectations. If the student needs help with academic essays, we will tie in with their current curriculum. If they wish to build a creative writing portfolio, or write a book, we will create a realistic schedule to help them work towards that goal. We can also work on a variety of different writing styles and formats. This class is for serious writers, as well as students who may be struggling with their writing. There is no level that must be met in order to take this class, as the class will be tailored to your student! Aspects and examples of writing that can be covered include, but are not limited to: -Academic essays (drafting, counterarguments, using quotations, sentence structure) -All forms of creative writing, whether it be flash fiction, poems, short stories, or longer form work (character development, world building, pacing, plot, grammar and syntax) -Journalistic writing -Revising and editing My personal teaching style is to create a warm and encouraging environment where brainstorming and constructive criticism can comfortably take place. When I was in high school I had a creative writing teacher who changed the course of my life. He truly believed in us, and showed us that writing is full of possibilities! Having support and feedback like that from a teacher has an incredible effect on confidence. It allows you to comfortably take chances and have fun with your writing, which in turn helps you grow into the writer you are meant to be! My goal is to encourage my students as they learn new ways to approach their drafting, writing, and editing process.
Learning Goals
During the first class we will set goals and expectations. These will vary greatly depending on each student and their individual needs.
