Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 4
In this class, students will learn foundational skills in phonics, reading, and writing, aligned with education content standards. The focus will be on building letter-sound relationships, decoding skills, reading fluency, comprehension, and basic writing skills. The goal is to enhance students' reading confidence and fluency, as well as their ability to write complete sentences and short paragraphs. The class will cover key topics such as: - Phonemic awareness: Identifying and manipulating sounds in spoken words. - Phonics: Understanding letter-sound correspondences and decoding words. - Sight words: Recognizing common words by sight to improve reading fluency. - Reading comprehension: Understanding and interpreting texts. - Writing basics: Forming letters, writing complete sentences, and crafting short paragraphs. - Vocabulary development: Expanding word knowledge through reading and discussion. The class is structured as a series of one-on-one sessions tailored to the student's individual needs. Each session will begin with a review of previous lessons, followed by targeted instruction on a specific skill or topic. The session will then move into interactive activities, such as reading practice, phonics games, and writing exercises. The class will end with a recap and a preview of the next session’s focus. I will teach using a blend of direct instruction, interactive activities, and guided practice. Lessons will be delivered through a combination of short lectures, visual aids like slides and video clips, and hands-on activities such as whiteboard exercises and interactive games. Each lesson will be adapted to the student’s learning pace and style to ensure mastery of the content. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and responsive to each student’s needs. I focus on creating a positive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. I use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic approaches. Learners will have plenty of opportunities to interact with me throughout each session. This includes: -Lecture: Short, focused explanations of new concepts. -Games: Interactive phonics and reading games to reinforce skills. -Slides and Video Clips: Visual aids to support learning and keep students engaged. -Discussion: Regular check-ins and discussions to assess understanding and encourage critical thinking. -Practice: Guided reading and writing exercises where I provide immediate feedback. This interactive approach ensures that students remain engaged and receive the support they need to succeed. Please be aware of the following class guidelines: -Cameras and microphones should remain on throughout the session to help with pronunciation and keep everyone engaged. -It’s helpful if a parent can occasionally observe in case there are any technical issues. -For the best experience, it’s recommended to use a laptop or computer, as iPads might not fully support all interactive activities. -Our sessions use whiteboards and interactive games that require basic digital skills. We can work on these skills together, with an adult present to model actions like screen sharing, clicking and dragging, highlighting, and using the writing tool to make the learning experience more interactive. -Please avoid eating during sessions, as it can be distracting and may pose a safety risk while speaking. Drinks are okay. -According to Outschool policy, if a student is more than 10 minutes late, the class will be marked as missed and will not be eligible for a refund. Additionally, refunds are not available for classes canceled within 24 hours of the scheduled time. If you need to reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours' notice. I’ll do my best to accommodate your request, but rescheduling within the same week depends on availability. I value parental input and encourage ongoing communication through the Outschool platform. I’m excited to help your student grow into a confident reader. Let’s work together to build strong reading skills that will last a lifetime!
Learning Goals
Students will develop the ability to identify and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words and apply this knowledge to decode words accurately.
Students will improve their reading fluency by recognizing high-frequency sight words and reading grade-level texts with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression, leading to better comprehension.
