US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome to your personalized 1:1 reading and literacy foundation tutoring! This intensive 1:1 reading tutoring program is designed for 20 minutes a day, five days a week. However, flexible scheduling options are available to better suit your needs. This class is tailored specifically to meet your child’s unique needs, helping them build essential reading skills based on the Science of Reading. We’ll start with a placement test to determine your child’s current level, ensuring that each lesson is perfectly suited to their needs. Whether your child is starting with the basics or refining their skills, this session will be both fun and challenging. Through a combination of exciting activities, reading practice, and games, your child will develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed. Research shows that short, consistent practice is more effective than longer, infrequent sessions. Practicing reading for 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week helps reinforce skills through spaced repetition, builds lasting neural pathways, and keeps students engaged. This approach promotes better retention, less cognitive overload, and encourages the development of strong reading habits over time. What will be taught? In our sessions, we’ll cover foundational literacy skills, including phonics, word decoding, reading fluency, comprehension, and writing. We will follow a structured curriculum based on the Science of Reading, focusing on building a strong literacy foundation while having fun along the way. As we progress, the lessons will be adjusted to meet your child's level, whether they’re starting with letter sounds or advancing to more complex reading concepts. What topics will we cover? - Phonics (letter sounds, blending, digraphs etc.) - Short and Long vowel sounds - R-controlled vowels (like -ar, -er, -ir, -or, and -ur) - Sight words and word families - High Frequency Words - Vowel Teams - Vowel Consonant E Words - Sentence structure and writing - Decoding words - Reading fluency and comprehension strategies The topics will be personalized based on the results of the placement test, ensuring that we meet your child where they are in their reading journey. How is your class structured? Each lesson will be structured to keep your child engaged while focusing on skill development: 1) Placement Assessment: We begin with a fun, low-pressure assessment to determine the student’s current level. 2) Exciting Topic Introduction: Each session will introduce a new topic in a fun and exciting way, with activities designed to grab their attention and make learning feel like an adventure. We may also enjoy a fun song or video during this time. 3) Interactive Practice: Together, we will practice the new skill using hands-on activities and visual aids, such as interactive slides, worksheets, and games. 4) Reading & Fluency: Your child will read sentences or passages to reinforce the skill, with me providing support to ensure they build fluency. 5) Creative Sentence Building: We’ll create sentences using the new words or sounds, allowing your child to practice in a fun and creative way. 6) Review and Reinforcement: At the end of each session, we’ll go over everything learned and reinforce the lesson with additional activities or games. 7) Homework Recommendations: I will provide suggestions for worksheets or activities to practice before the next session to continue reinforcing the skills learned. How will you teach? My teaching approach is interactive, engaging, and tailored to each student. I love making learning fun by incorporating songs, videos, games, and activities that appeal to different learning styles. Whether it’s practicing phonics through a fun video or reinforcing fluency with a game, each session is designed to keep your child actively involved and excited about learning. What’s your teaching style? I bring energy, enthusiasm, and positivity to every lesson! My teaching style is warm, encouraging, and focused on making sure your child enjoys their learning experience while building confidence in their skills. I create a comfortable, supportive environment where questions are welcomed and mistakes are part of the learning process. Each lesson is a chance for your child to explore new skills, and I make sure they feel proud of their progress every step of the way. How much will learners get to interact with you? Since this is a private 1:1 session, your child will receive plenty of individual attention. Throughout the lesson, they’ll interact with me by: - Participating in activities: Hands-on practice, games, and exercises. - Asking questions: I encourage your child to ask questions and share their thoughts during every part of the lesson. - Reading and writing: We’ll practice reading passages and writing sentences together. - Playing games: Fun reading or letter-based games at the end of the session to reinforce learning in a playful way. - Ongoing support: I provide personalized feedback and guidance throughout the session to ensure they’re understanding and making progress. With this private tutoring, your child will get the full benefit of one-on-one attention and a fun, engaging approach to building their reading and literacy skills!
