This 1-hour private weekly tutoring session (1x a week) will be based on your child's needs. I am a nationally certified teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching grades K-3 and as a reading specialist. I have a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Design with a Specialization in Reading. This class includes a 10-minute "warm-up read" with a leveled text your child will be able to read independently. Next, we will spend 20 minutes on word-work. Word work will include a making words game, sorting word activities, sight word practice, or an onset/time manipulation activity. We will spend 20 minutes reading "new" leveled texts on your child's instructional level. Before we read, we will review the new vocabulary and make some predictions. Your child will then read the new story. Finally, we will work on decoding skills based on your child's reading experience for the day. During this time, we will work on areas of need based on their lesson. This may include more word work, fluency practice, or comprehension activities. **Please note that the first few classes also involve simple assessments. Children usually don't even notice they are being assessed.
