1:1 Private Phonics and Reading Tutoring Aligned With Science of Reading

In this ongoing 1-to-1 tutoring class, I will uses evidence-based teaching methods aligned with the Science of Reading, focusing on explicit and systematic instruction of reading skills to help students struggling with reading development.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this class I will customize our session to best meet the needs of your child.  Depending on what you want for your child our first session will either be a Reading Assessment or if your child knows all their letters and letter sounds, we will begin with the first lesson of short a cvc blending.  

I was trained in the Science of Reading, so my lessons will follow the SOR scope and sequence. With my 22 years experience as a Prek-2 teacher, I am confident in my abilities to create my own curriculum for beginning reading.
My lessons will follow the following sequence: 

Beginning letter sounds (unless students already know them)

CVC blending (1 week each a,e,i,o,u)

Blends (1 week each s-blends, r-blend, l-blends)

Digraphs (1 week each sh, ch, th, wh,)  

Qu words (1 week)

Ng - ing words (2 weeks) 

Silent e words (2 weeks) 

Sly y and sneaky y words (2 weeks) 

Floss words (2 weeks) 

Bossy r words (1 week each or, ar, er, ir, ur)

Ow, ou  words (2 weeks) 

2 syllable words (3 weeks) 

**Each lesson will also include sight words and heart word practice. 

Lessons will include, but are not limited to; fun and engaging decoding strategies, sentence reading, short passage reading, phonics games and writing. 

**I will use resources from my classroom as well as West Virginia Phonics and UFLI

Hello, my name is Stephanie! 

I am excited to teach your child! I am a certified teacher with over 20 years of experience.  I have a double Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education and Child Development. I also have a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy.  I am trained in LETRS (Science of Reading) both volumes 1 and 2.

A little about me: I love the outdoors. We are a lake family and spend most of the summer there. In addition I enjoy hiking, jogging, traveling, decorating, and spending time with my family.   My husband is a Veterinarian, so we have lots of animals!!   We also have 3 children, 10, 8, and 25.. Yes, big jump!  I have been a mommy and a teacher for a very long time!!!!  
I love watching children grow and learn.  I feel that it is crucial to help students feel confident and smart!!  I’m very excited to meet your child and help them on their learning journey! 
 
I am currently a 1st grade teacher, but I have taught numerous children (prek-2) of all backgrounds in person and online. I was also a Parents as Teachers educator for 4 years.
