Class Experience
What is hope? For the purpose of this lesson, hope is when we feel we can positively impact our future. In other words, hope is connected to agency and a growth mindset. Social scientists have identified seven decisions that people can regularly make that help them become more hopeful. People who do this become "High Hope People." In this 1:1 session, the teacher will help the student understand these decisions, including why they are being referred to as decisions, and how they may be activated in their life. The seven decisions are: - seeing possibilities instead of seeing things as being fixed - noticing beauty & benefits instead of focusing on the negative - cultivating positive feelings instead of settling on negative habits - focusing on strengths instead of weaknesses - creating challenging goals instead of being unengaged - finding purpose instead of lacking a sense of meaning - cherishing relationships instead of becoming isolated People who look forward with hope overcome challenges and are more likely to achieve their goals. Learning about hope is great way to learn how to enter and stay in a hopeful frame of mind.
