Mr. Rafael is originally from Brazil and currently lives in the U.S. He is a Psychology and Organizational Behavior graduate of the Washington University in St. Louis with a focus on Education and Memory Recall. He has tutored students ages 6-14 in many subjects, including Math, Chess, and Coding. He uses a Facilitator teaching style, focusing on student engagement and activities for the students. We recommend students spend at least 1 hour a week practicing puzzles or playing games. Practice between classes is what will help each student improve at Chess and maintain an interest in the game.
Chess games must be played on a laptop or a computer. If your child has access to 2 devices they can enter the Outschool Zoom room via a tablet or smartphone, then use a laptop or computer for the digital chessboard. Students play in class using Lichess.org or Chess.org. If you already have an account please keep it for your personal use. We are unable to store student information including scores/ rankings.
We do not provide written feedback to families regarding their students skill development. You are certainly welcome to email us questions about student participation, but we cannot save student scores. Having your own personal ChessKid.com account for use at home offers a good way for students to practice in between lessons and for parents to monitor their child's chess ranking.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will play using Chess.org or Lichess.org. Students are not required to use personal information such as email addresses to login to these accounts. We do not store personal information in these accounts. If you already have a digital chessboard account on Lichess.org, Chess.org, ChessKid.com, Chess.com or any other online digital chessboard account please keep it for your personal use. We are unable to store student information including scores/ rankings. Having your own personal ChessKid.com account for use at home offers a good way for students to practice in between lessons.
