Assessment
In the first class, the student will be informally assessed on the basic colors, 2-shapes, and numbers 0-5 to see what he/she already knows. This assessment will be used to determine what skills need to be emphasized more and what kind of activities need to be provided for the student.

Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Students will be taught basic Math skills such as counting objects up to 5, recognizing numbers on a clock to tell time to the hour, and adding and subtractng within 5. We will also do activities to help recognize objects that are the same and different, as well as activities to recognize 2-D shapes and colors.
Topics covered will be 2-D shapes, basic colors, same and different, counting sets of objects to 5 and recognizing the corresponding number, telling time to the hour, as well as adding and subtracting within 5.
In this class, we will use flash cards to go over colors, shapes, and numbers 0-5. I have made google slide games with fun songs that are interactive to help students to see what objects are alike and what objects are different. Other games are played to help reinforce counting, adding, and subtracting The student is rewarded with a thumbs up happy face when the correct answer is chosen to make it more interactive and fun. We will learn a song that helps the child to tell time using an analog clock. We will also use white boards to practice writing numbers and drawing shapes together. Worksheets will be sent for the child to practice the skills at home that we are going over in class.
No prior knowledge is needed for this class but it would be helpful for the child to know how to hold a pencil or marker correctly when practicing writing the numbers that we go over.
Learning Goals
The student will learn to recognize the numbers on a clock as he/she learns a song to tell time to the hour. The student will learn how to look at a set of objects and tell which objects are alike and which objects are different. The student will learn how to count a set of objects and find the matching number. The student will learn the names of the basic 2-D shapes and the basic colors. The student will learn how to add and subtract within 5.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Kay and I have been enjoying teaching online with Outschool since the Fall of 2021!! I have a Masters degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been a Kindergarten teacher for many years and the last couple of years teaching, I was also teaching ESL students online early in the mornings. I retired in 2021 from the public school system but wanted to continue to use my teaching skills. I was fortunate to find Out School and be able to continue teaching children in a less restrictive way. In the below video, I demonstrate how I would teach reading online to young children.
As far as my teaching philosophy, I believe that all children can learn but they learn in a variety of ways. I like to address each type of learner by using a variety of teaching methods. For example using tactile/hands on objects helps the kinesthetic learner and using lots of pictures to teach with helps the visual learner. Young children especially benefit from
using a variety of teaching methods. In my years of teaching, I have taught many children how to read but one of my greatest loves has been working with children in the early stages of the writing process. If you are interested in me helping your young learner with the early stages of writing, please check out my “Little Writers Workshop “ class where I teach young children how to use a picture that they draw to make a story.
 A little bit about me:
I was raised a farm/country girl and enjoy being around nature. My home that my husband built is surrounded by lots of woods and wildlife. The hobbies that I enjoy include cooking, baking, and gardening. In the summer, I enjoy canning fresh vegetables from our garden and going on fun trips with my family. This year, I will be the Art teacher for the school that I recently retired at so I am looking forward to this new adventure. I also hope to see your child on Out School!
