Beginner - Advanced Level
Did you know that using figurative language can go a long way in making one's writing stand out? If your learner would like to get creative with poetry while learning all about different poem types as well as various kinds of figurative language, this camp is for them!

Note: Because this is a one on one class, your learner's preferences will always be the focus! Therefore, if you would like another type of poem or figurative language topic to be covered that isn't listed below, please let me know! We can always replace one of the types listed with a different one of your choosing. (As with all my one on one classes here on Outschool, the lesson plan given can always be adjusted to fit each individual learner's interests and preferences.)

Here is a break down of what this two day crash course in poetry will cover:

Day One:
Types Of Poetry: We will learn about a variety of different poems such as acrostic poems, haikus, cinquains & persona poems and learners will have a chance to write their own. (Learners will choose at least three types of poems they would like to write in class. If time allows, learners can always write more than this.)

Day Two:
Figurative Language & Art in Poetry: We will learn about alliteration and the difference between similes & metaphors as well as how we can use them in poetry. We will see how engaging our five senses can lead to writing better poems and learners will write their own poem using sensory language. We will also learn about poems that use art & simple shapes to express ideas such as concrete poems & diamantés. Learners will then be given time to work on their own poems using these methods.

Special Note: If upon completion of this 2 day camp your learner would like to continue learning more forms of poetry, they can take this class again as many times as they'd like as there are many other poems we can cover such as sonnets, personification poems, limericks, and much much more! (Typically, three or four new poem types are covered each day of class.)

Don't see a time convenient for your learner? Feel free to reach out to me with any day/time requests!
Learning Goals
Learners will finish the workshop feeing more confident in their poetry knowledge and will have gained lots of practice creating their own poems!

I have worked abroad helping teenagers to brainstorm and improve their writing. I currently enjoy blogging, writing stories, and helping elementary school students enjoy writing more. This past year I was asked twice to write and present a poem for special events. I have held several creative writing workshops over zoom for young people and enjoy creative writing as a personal hobby.
