Class Experience
Intermediate Level
Piano skills, terms, and technique will be taught at the intermediate level. Learners must be able to read treble clef and bass clef notes on the staff. Topics will include: eighth notes, expressions- dynamics (softs and louds), technical pieces from composers Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn, popular pieces tailored to student interest, traditional chords and pop song chords, lead sheets, 1st/2nd endings. The learner will improve piano skills and technique while playing songs at an intermediate level.
Practice during the week is essential for learner progress. The learner will be expected to practice 20-30 minutes for a minimum of 5 days a week. Some theory pages (music note printing, symbol/note identification will be optional but are highly encouraged for more progress.
A piano or keyboard is required for this class. Parents may choose to print out the materials. A 3 ring binder is strongly recommended if going with this option. Parents may also choose to order the hard copy of this book. A link will be provided upon enrollment.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Informal assessment will be provided through a written report or checklist. Parents may choose to opt in to a practice/progress tracker online.
30 minutes per class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Parental guidance will be needed for use of a 3rd party tool through the book- Interactive Piano Method. It’s website is www.carolmatzpiano.com An account for this is not required. However, parents may opt in to sign up with an account, for this feature to track practice/progress and for supplemental activities. There is no additional charge for this resource. This is totally voluntary and is not required for class participation. The teacher will sign on during class, (with parent permission) through screen sharing, to use this website for quick quizzes/games for a learning check and to keep the student engaged.
