Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome! In this course students will learn and practice paragraph writing to structure an essay. This class is best for advanced beginners - intermediate writers who need help sticking to main points while writing a paragraph. Students should know how to write a complete sentence with the appropriate conventions of capitalization, proper punctuation, etc. All students will be guided and encouraged based on their personal writing ability. Learners will receive support through visual aids and examples to help them understand different paragraph types, including academic vocabulary such as topic sentence and thesis statement. They will also be given teacher support for spelling/grammar checks through the Zoom chat box and whiteboard features. The overall target goal for your learner is to guide them to confidently write for an extended period of time. New content will be taught each week. Previous attendees will be reminded of the content already taught and provided with help to independently write. Newcomers will be supported with teacher examples and regularly receive attention to ensure understanding and comfort. This course is taught to accommodate all learners in a fun and encouraging environment. Please ensure your learner has a lined notebook for this class and bring the same notebook for each class. Please feel free to message me with any questions. Thank you! I grew up and went to school in the New York City area but now live in a small farming community in rural Midwest, USA. I enjoy working with and meeting people from both urban and rural settings and readily adjust to meet their learning needs in a culturally responsive way. I also volunteer at a prison and remain adaptable to ensure a supportive and safe learning environment.
I have degrees in the area of Corporate Communication, Education, and Second Language Acquisition. My teaching background is varied as a former 3rd Grade Classroom Teacher at a French immersion school, Orton-Gillingham trained structured reading teacher and as an Adjunct College Instructor.
I believe instructional data is crucial to improve learning outcomes. I constantly assess student comprehension during sessions in a relaxed and encouraging learning environment.
I love traveling and learning more about different cultures. This helps me to support all learners in my classroom. So far, I have visited Estonia, Russia, Kinshasa (Congo), London, Togo, South Korea, Latvia and a few other places. I also studied abroad in France. With each travel experience my respect for people and their culture simply deepens. I look forward to meeting you too!
