Class Experience

Private ukulele lessons. 1-on-1 instruction individualized to each learner's unique needs and goals. Perfect for complete beginners, intermediate players, or advanced players who are looking to develop new skills and further their technique. No previous experience or knowledge is required.

Possible topics that will be worked on:
-How to hold the ukulele
-How to tune the ukulele
-Playing position and rest position
-How to strum and play different strumming patterns
-Proper hand and finger position
-How to read chords, tab, and music notation
-How to play chords
-How to count and play chord patterns/progressions on the ukulele
-How to play songs using chords
-How to play scales and melodies
-Music theory

Bring your ukulele and any music that you may be working on! I will also provide you with exercises and songs for your skill level during our lessons.

I encourage family members to assist their learners if needed during the first lesson, but to remain off-screen during this class per Outschool policy. Frequent modeling, clear directions, and repetition will be used during instruction to maximize students' success. After a student's first lesson, I highly suggest allowing your student to learn and play their instrument independently to allow them to progress into self-sufficient and self-motivated musicians.
Learning Goals
Students will develop and improve their ukulele skills such as how to hold the instrument, playing position and rest position, how to strum, proper hand and finger position, play chords, count and play chord patterns/progressions, and how to play songs using chords, and how to play scales and melodies. They will also improve their rhythm, counting skills, music reading skills, music theory skills and pattern recognition.

I am a certified music educator with a M.A in Music & Music Education. I fell in love with the ukulele over a decade ago, and have been playing and teaching it ever since. I have been teaching group ukulele classes for 11 years. I also have taught private music lessons for 16 years. I love this instrument and specialize in teaching beginning instrumental music lessons to young beginners. The ukulele is a happy instrument, so my goal is to make learning the ukulele fun and frustration-free.
