Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Advanced Level
- Courtesy Introduction -

First lesson free if it's unhelpful or we're not a good fit. Guaranteed better test taking and study skills after 5 or more sessions. Feel confident using simple tips to get a better score. We'll strategically guess our way to the answer.

Out of courtesy, we could extend our session to fulfill all urgent requests you have within the same week. The bonus time past the original time frame will be free of cost to you. Beyond that, such as needing 2-5 sessions to finish everything we need to do, please schedule them, and we will still offer you bonus, free time to maximize our effectiveness and time. As a result, we will produce quality work and performance.

- Important Logistical Notes Before Our First Meeting -

1. Please schedule 1+ days in advance because sometimes the system blocks same day or 1 day scheduling.

If you message me about a private meeting at a specific time slot, I would be glad to work with you although you have to understand it may not work, and the more time you give us, the better.

2. Please send me all your online files or photos of physical files through Outschool "Conversations" messages. Preferably 1+ days in advance to prevent technical difficulties.

***If you include an answer key, it will save us both valuable time in terms of you getting your money's worth for the session. Doing the problem completely from scratch is not always a good thing, and it does not necessarily demonstrate clear understanding of the material. Being able to do the problem in a faster, shorter and easier way is a good sign of mastery, and the answer key helps us do that.

More importantly, 1+ days allow me to review your material and either ask questions if needed, or give you a full refund to save you time, meaning I won't be able to help.

Make sure all files and photos are clear and zoomed in because there is no feature to zoom in later, which means you will have to retake them if the video screen share shows them either too small or blurry.

3. If you must reschedule, please do it 2+ days in advance because the more last minute you wait, the more we may not be able to reschedule due to system blocks.

When that's the case, please understand I'm trying to help you, and if you cannot get a refund because it's outside the Outschool 48-hour window policy, you would have to contact support because it's beyond my ability to assist at that point.

4. According to Outschool Policy, if the student arrives late to the meeting by 10 minutes, the instructor may leave and you will be stuck with a paid session without a refund.

In my case, I am willing to wait up to 20 minutes before leaving, so please make sure you are not too late because that's the best I could do for you. In addition, the session will still end on time, without any makeup time regardless of how much time we lost due to any reason, so please understand the session could have rightfully been cancelled on my end although out of courtesy to you, we will make the best of the shorter time.

5. If the student has a medical or lawful reason for wanting the camera off the whole lesson, please let me know in advance. Normally, it might be better for you to find another educator, although if your case is special, I am willing to work with you. Ideally, you would be comfortable with turning on your camera the whole time, so that our experience and interaction would be more effective and engaging. Knowing our surroundings and environment would improve your learning and progress.

- General Topics and Themes of Course -

This class covers all standardized tests ranging from middle school to high school to college. We may also cover national standardized tests that are outside of these areas, such as AMC (American Mathematics Competitions), etc.

We could either do example practice problems or tests from your test prep book or online resource. If you do not have these ready, I could find one for us.

For a specific, fuller list, please message me, and you could feel free to bring up any standardized tests as long as they fall into this age range. For example, I never knew about the AMC test until a student asked if I could tutor it, and we began to work on it effectively.

For your knowledge, this is possible because standardized tests all use the same test taking strategies and thought process, as well as following the same patterns. Material wise, my foundation is strong enough to know it by heart and if not, it should take me little time to learn a new standardized test for your sake.

This whole course is dedicated to early college prep, whether standardized test prep or college applications or the personal statement essay for middle school, high school or college. For the college apps, we'll focus on your personal statement essay before filling out the rest of your application, in order to attend an elite private school, whether middle school, high school or college.

For standardized test prep, we'll cover all the specific, easy tips that narrow our answer choices to final two or one for the math, reading and writing sections. This simple strategy alone boosts scores by 10+ percentile.

We'll cover advanced and fast track, personalized lessons for the math, reading and writing sections, if the student needs them to reach the 90 - 99 percentile, or top 10 to 1 percent barrier.

We'll also develop outside skills such as time management, test-taking, study and organization, so the student finishes all the questions in time, instead of feeling anxiety or stress while leaving some blank.

We'll attend 1+ session a week, or it may vary according to the parents and students' preference, depending on their strengths and weaknesses.

We'll ensure the student understands the current material before moving forward. If the student doesn't understand right away, we'll patiently explain the concept from another perspective, so the student feels comfortable. We may always revisit past material for clarity or reminder.

The student will have the freedom to always interrupt the instructor and ask questions if something doesn't make sense.

- Some Specific Topics and Themes of Course -

For the personal statement essay, we'll learn the tone we need to engage the application reader, and the language, which determines the strength of our paper. We'll also emphasize your life story to make you stand out among the thousands of applicants. Lastly, we'll strategize your extracurricular activities in order to reinforce your grades and test scores. When all factors align, admission to at least the waitlist is essentially guaranteed.

For the math section, we'll learn the technique of "estimating" and rule out answers far from our estimation before locking into the answer closest to it.

For the reading section, we'll learn how to scan and skim through passages and gather valuable information within lesser time.

For the writing section, we'll learn simple grammar and punctuation that is universal to finding the 1 or 2 answer choices of most writing questions.

Overall, we want to master "the process of elimination" such that every answer choice narrows down between 2 answer choices rather than 3 or more.
