Homework
Homework will only be provided upon request! This time is exclusively for students to ask questions about whichever topics/problems they wish to discuss. Additionally, I will provide further learning resources for each tutoring session (i.e. Khan Academy, YouTube).
Assessment
From session to session, I take detailed notes of where students are excelling and where more time/focus is required. In areas where more attention is needed, I provide specific resources (i.e. Khan Academy, screenshots of my textbooks, YouTube) following each tutoring session.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 12
Over 8 years of providing math/science tutoring services from the elementary school level all the way to the post-graduate school level. While math and engineering has always been my passion, I've continually challenged the existing teaching methods usually questioning: "Why are these subjects taught in such a complicated manner?". The good news is my 4-step math problem-solving approach is guaranteed to succeed for any level of math. (even used this in graduate school classes!)

Here are some specifics:

For ages 10-12:
- Multiplication and division
- Introduction to algebra (variables & expressions)
- Elementary graphing
- Basic operations with fractions & decimals
- Geometric shapes and properties
- Basic data analysis (collecting, organizing, and interpreting data - my favorite!)

For ages 13-15:
- Algebraic expressions and equations
- Ratios, proportions, and percentages
- Geometry (polygons, congruence, similarity)
- Data analysis and probability
 - Introduction to basic algebraic functions

Age 16-18:
- Solving linear equations and inequalities
- Exponents and scientific notation
- Quadratic equations and functions
- Coordinate geometry
- Trigonometry
- Probability & statistics (descriptive & inferential)
- Calculus (differential & integral)
- Matrices & vectors

Regardless of the level of proficiency your child possesses, interacting with math in a fun way is a necessity for these sessions. That's why I use break down my tutoring sessions in two parts: 1.) we put pencil to paper with example problems I walk through taking what may be complicated math concepts at first and breaking them down in simplified chunks & 2.) we end each session with a live, interactive learning game (Gimkit) leaving your child feeling more confident than ever in the classroom.
Learning Goals
Each session will be adapted to your child's needs. Each will be based on their learning preference/style to attain a high level of proficiency within a given math topic.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
No additional time outside the classroom. This class will facilitate your child in feeling considerably more confident in their math studies today and moving forward into the future. In order for each tutoring session to be as effective and efficient as possible, I strongly recommend parents or students sharing the desired math focus areas in advance of the session.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Classes I Teach:
I specialize in tutoring a range of subjects, including calculus, algebra, statistics, SAT Math, and chemistry. These subjects have always fascinated me, and I believe they form the foundation of many disciplines (including my own career!), enabling students to excel in various academic pursuits.

Professional Background:
With a Bachelor's of Science in Ocean Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a Master's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, I have gained valuable experience as an analytics manager in the financial services industry. This diverse background allows me to bring a unique perspective to my tutoring sessions, bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world applications.

Values and Philosophy Behind My Teaching:
My teaching philosophy revolves around fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed and excel in their studies with the right guidance and approach. I strive to understand each student's unique learning style and adapt my teaching methods accordingly. I aim to instill not only subject-specific knowledge but also critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a lifelong passion for learning.

I strongly believe in the power of personalized attention, providing individualized support to address students' specific needs and challenges. By establishing a positive rapport with my students, I create a safe space where they can ask questions, explore concepts deeply, and develop confidence in their abilities. I encourage an interactive and collaborative learning experience, where students actively participate and develop their own understanding of the subject matter.

Something Fun and Personal:
In my free time, you'll often find me exploring the great outdoors of the Northeastern US mountains. As an ocean engineering graduate, I have a deep appreciation for the natural world, and I love to indulge in activities such as hiking, kayaking, and scuba diving. Nature not only provides a sense of tranquility but also serves as a wellspring of inspiration and creativity. I often draw parallels between the beauty of the natural world and the elegance of scientific concepts, weaving these connections into my teaching to make the learning experience more enjoyable and relatable.

By combining my passion for teaching, scientific expertise, and love for the outdoors, I strive to create a tutoring experience that not only helps students succeed academically but also fosters a sense of curiosity, wonder, and personal growth.
