Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This is a one-on-one tutorial session based on your student's needs. These individual sessions are 30 minutes each, and there are two format choices for each session.

Option 1) We can review any classwork, homework, graded assessments, or lessons previously covered for clarification and understanding.
Option 2) I can present and provide practice for a current topic/concept in your subject area. Instruction and examples will follow the "I do-WE do-YOU do" model to ensure understanding of the concept.

Each session will have the following structure:
Option 1)
(5 minutes) We will verify the topic for the session, check that the student has all the necessary materials (pencil, paper, textbook or assignment questions, etc.), and answer any preliminary questions.
(20 minutes) I will assist with current homework/classwork OR review previous classwork/homework/quiz/test for clarification.
(5 minutes) Check for understanding and follow-up questions.

Option 2)
(10 minutes) I-do/We-do: I will present the concept and model 1-2 examples, then I will guide the student through 1-2 practice problems. Initial questions will be addressed.
(15 minutes) You-do: The student will complete and explain 2-3 lesson problems. Any additional questions/misconceptions will be addressed.
(5 minutes) The student will have a chance to ask 1-2 homework questions, or they will complete a post-lesson exercise to check for understanding.

To allow me to prepare and provide the best possible session for your student, I request you indicate the math class your student is enrolled in and send an example of the topic/concept your student needs assistance with at least 24 hours before the scheduled session. This can be a quick picture of the assignment questions uploaded as a pdf, doc, jpeg, png, or video file.

Some examples of topics I can cover with your student include:

-PreAlgebra: Solving one-step equations
-Algebra1: Graphing linear equations
-Geometry: Finding volume and surface area
-Trigonometry: Special right triangles
-PreCalculus: Identifying even and odd functions

These sessions are designed to be tailored to the student's personal needs so there is plenty of room for flexibility with either option. My goal is to find the right fit for your child to be as successful as possible. Multiple sessions during the week can be scheduled for students who need more frequent assistance with their math class. I can provide practice problems or additional resources upon request.

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here so let me tell you a little about myself...

I LOVE math! Needless to say, I have met many students (and adults) who do not share my feelings :o) However, my experience is not unique, at least in my mind. I was a typical girl who loved school and delighted in bringing home A's (yes I am a nerd). I discovered that my love of school did not diminish as I got older, and my enthusiasm extended to wanting to help others excel at what I found so enjoyable.

I have a BA in Mathematics from Oakwood University and worked for the Dept. of Defense for over 10 years. I also volunteered at my church's free community tutoring program for over 6 years. I have taught in traditional middle and high school settings, as well as summer school sessions and online courses. I have tutored students in all areas of math from elementary thru graduate-level statistics.

Since 2012 I have been combining my love of math with the joy I get from seeing a student excited about learning and understanding a new concept. I am ready and excited to help your student succeed in math!
