Beginner Level
Let's get learning! Because life skills can vary so much from each individual and situation, I find it more appropriate to teach those skills in a one on one setting. In our half hour sessions, we can focus in on a single skill that needs developing, reinforce existing skills, or choose a few topics to quickly review. This is also ideal for ADHD executive functioning skills. Your student's needs lead the way! Some of the topics may include: Life Skills Topics - Hygiene & Grooming, Clothing Sizes, Hardware & Tools, Kitchen Sight Words, Sizes, Phone Conversations Functional Math - Dollar Up, More or Less, Money Identification, Menu Math, Fractions, Comparison Shopping Functional Reading & Writing - Reading Comprehension, WH Questions, Environmental Print, Personal Information / Form Filling Community Skills - Community Safety, Community Signs, Dentist Appointment, Grocery Stores, Post Office, Gift Exchange, Doctor's Appointment, Interviews Vocational Skills - Looking Professional, Types of Employment, Job Skills, Resumes, Workplace Accommodations, Calendar Skills These one on one sessions can take many forms - either as a full curriculum of life skills needs, or zeroing in on specific skills that your child needs, including executive functioning, study skills, or time management. Lessons will be delivered through a combination of traditional pen and paper work, role play, videos, slides and games. I use a laid back teaching style that is more collaborative than authoritative, and I love tailoring lessons to fit the need. Think of this as a social skills camp!
Learning Goals
Students will develop the desired life skills that will assist in their day to day lives. If your child has specific IEP goals in relation to life skills, I can assist with those targeted areas to help them achieve that goal.
Other Details
Learning Needs
Many students that have mental health needs, social emotional needs, or just plain teenager-ness struggle with life skills. These sessions are designed to help create steps and coping strategies for some of life's more confusing tasks.
Supply List
Students should have something to write on, and something to write with. A pencil & paper is fine, but a white board and dry erase marker are even better. Worksheets may be part of instruction, so access to a printer is needed.
