1:1 Let's Draw LEGO Self Portraits! (One Time Class, Ages 7-12)
Class experience
US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
In this one time class, we will create a LEGO self portrait using pencil, graph paper, ink and eraser. This is how it'll be done: First we'll discuss actual 3D LEGO parts and how we can draw them on paper. When you're looking at a LEGO character from the front, what kinds of shapes do you see? Using a sheet of graph paper, we can create a line of symmetry down the middle and count rows and columns to create vertical and horizontal lines. How many squares on each side can we use to create a...
Students will improve their understanding of the importance of area, symmetry, counting and planning. Graph paper is a great way for people to be comfortable drawing straight lines without the use of a ruler. With this in mind, a basic formula of squares can be use in order to create accurate shapes. This technique can also be used for drawing diagonal lines.
I have been a KS certified K-12 Art teacher since 2007. I also have a background in pen and ink illustration, as well as self publishing. I also teach workshops on cartooning and sketchbook drawing.
This class involves using a graph paper as a way of navigating around the surface for accurate placement of lines and shapes. A ruler is unneeded since any straight lines drawn will be, either, on an actual line OR from connecting dots.
