Class Experience

US Grade 2
This 1:1 writing workshop for 2nd grade will provide students with experience in writing:
✏️personal narrative
✏️expository
✏️opinion

The 1:1 format will allow your student to work at their OWN PACE, and write about the topics they are interested in. We will work through two pieces of writing through all of the stages before moving on to the next style. When we have made our way through all three styles, we will rotate back to the first and continue to learn, refine, and practice additional strategies. Your student may work through all three styles of writing quickly or they make take several sessions to get through one. It's all dependent on your student, which is why I am excited to offer this individualized option.

We will work through each writing style using the following process:
✏️Minilesson/Mentor Text
✏️Brainstorming Topics: This is often the most difficult part for many students, and is an important part of the writing process. I will not choose their topic for them. I will help and guide them, but I want them to be excited about what they are writing!
✏️Planning their writing (beginning/middle/end, main idea/details, opinion/reasons)
✏️Rough Draft
✏️Revising/Editing: We will carefully choose a few things to improve on. We are not looking for perfection, but growth.
✏️Publishing: I will talk through some ideas with the students to "publish" their work. This is optional.

The class will include slides, graphic organizers, discussion, read alouds, and interactive activities.
Learning Goals
Students will understand and be able to use these writing styles: personal narrative, expository, and opinion.
