Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In the 45-minute private 1:1 session, students will learn basic skills to help comprehend a particularly challenging area they may face in class. This session deals with students' fear of asking questions and who may need additional help with reading, writing, and crafting successful assignments.

Example one: Your student comes to me with an argumentative essay assignment for Romeo and Juliet and is unaware of how to write a counter-argument. I will work with your student to develop ideas on managing an opposing view. Not only will we look at content, but grammar will also be a priority.

Example two: Your student comes home with a study guide for Animal Farm (Lord of the Flies, etc.) and is having trouble comprehending the text. I will use various techniques to help your students understand analysis questions.

Example three: Your student has been assigned summer reading and needs assistance with comprehension or analysis questions. Not having a teacher present during the summer can be tricky, so this session would allow for a jump-start to the year.

Example four: Literary analysis. Your student has been assigned a literary analysis of a specific novel and needs help analyzing literary devices and development. I will guide your student through the steps of analyzing devices and help with paragraph setup.

Example five: Your student has a major essay or research paper due and needs help with proofreading before turning it in. I will provide a checklist to help your student find their mistakes as I guide them.

Example six: Literary devices and vocabulary help. Your student will be taking state tests in the near future. I will help guide students through some test-taking tips and content. I am most familiar with Pennsylvania state testing (PSSA and Keystone).

By the end of the tutoring session, your student will demonstrate improved proficiency in their struggling area, enhancing their overall ability to communicate ideas effectively in written English.
