Learners will be guided through how to read a prompt, locating a main idea(s), writing a topic sentence, using transition words, inserting quotes, elaborating on evidence, and writing a solid conclusion.

After each session, the guardian will receive a reading running record, learner work example, and comments.

A prepared list of 2-3 hobbies, interests, and/or topics for reading.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
A class account code will be provided to Newsela or ReadWorks before or during the session. While most articles are appropriate for the suggested age level (both are reputable educational websites), the host understands that some topics may be considered sensitive for some. Therefore, thought will be given to the appropriateness of the chosen passage for the age level of the learner.
Other passages may be suggested during the session if needed.
