Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will improve and build on foundational English literacy skills (reading comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, and phonemic awareness).
I have a BA in Education from Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) and a Reading Endorsement from Drake University (Des Moines, Iowa, USA). I have worked as a certified teacher and reading interventionist with the Des Moines Public School District. My role as a reading interventionist was to strengthen learners' proficiency in reading by offering small group instruction covering a specific area of the five pillars of literacy (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension). I love helping students find confidence and enjoyment in reading by creating fun, yet targeted, reading lessons that will give learner's a solid foundation of literacy skills.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
