Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
Level 2 of our ESL Curriculum for Beginners is aimed at young learners and teenagers who have a basic knowledge of English structures such as those covered in Level 1 of our Curriculum, or students who have already completed Level 1.

For this reason, the twelve lessons in Level 2 build on students’ existing knowledge to introduce them to more complex structures and vocabulary, such as:
He/she/they pronouns and different emotions and countries.

‘Can’ for ability and asking and answering questions with ‘can’.

‘Like’ in the present simple and asking and answering questions about food.

Adjectives and nouns, with the question ‘What is it?.

There is/there are alongside kitchen vocabulary.

Simple prepositions of place are introduced with technology vocabulary.

Introduction to the present continuous with the structure ‘What are you doing?.

Demonstrative pronouns: this, that, these, and those.

Imperatives with useful classroom instructions.

Clothes vocabulary with a recap of the present continuous and different pronouns.

Lessons 6 and 12 of the curriculum serve as review lessons:
Lesson 6 reviews the content learnt in lessons 1 to 5, whereas lesson 12 recaps the content covered in lessons 7 to 11.

Each lesson begins by presenting the key structures that are to be learnt before some guided reinforcement exercises such as gap fills, matching exercises and even error correction. There are also several opportunities for students to get in some invaluable speaking practice with structured dialogues and randomiser activities, which will give them the confidence to practise what they have learnt in class. In the review lessons, students revise what they have learnt in each block of lessons by completing different activities such as dialogue creations and matching exercises, as well as vocabulary refresher activities.
Learning Goals
ESL Curriculum for Beginners: Level 2 - To encourage speaking opportunities and improve communication skills by boosting students' confidence so that they can eventually speak independently.

Parental Guidance
All students will be muted when needed, to minimize background noise. Please ensure to spend some time with your learner, teaching them the mute and unmute features as I am unable to unmute them. Or I ask that you sit with your learner in order to provide that support. I want to make sure every learner gets a chance to speak and ask questions when it is their turn.
Supply List
For younger learners, some crayons and a piece of paper are encouraged to draw and share artwork based on the week's theme.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
