Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Tutoring sessions will focus on early literacy skills within the categories of word recognition and language comprehension, depending on the development and needs of the learner. Word recognition skills include phonological awareness, decoding, and sight recognition. Language comprehension skills include background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning, and literacy knowledge.

The needs of each learner will be assessed through observation, pre-existing diagnostic or screening data, and/or current assessments.

Instructional practices include those presented by Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Heggerty, and Core Knowledge Language Arts. These programs utilize physical items such as letter/ word cards, as well as digital items like slides and decodable readers. Depending on the focus of instruction, students can expect to read, write, and listen to/ discuss a variety of texts through an "I do, We do, You do" approach.
Learning Goals

Students will be able to decode words with increased complexity as they build their knowledge of sound-spellings or graphemes.
