This can apply to any child for whom conversations and social situations are challenging. Students will explore the rhythms of conversations and will build confidence in sharing their special interests with the session leader. They will learn strategies for self-advocacy and build strategies to identify and voice their own needs in a social group. Learners will feel confident joining ARI's "Making Friends" groups. Carly has been running inclusive and supportive social groups for kids for over 10 years. With her Bachelor's of Child and Youth Care, with early childhood education specialization from the University of Victoria, she has years of experience coaching the anatomy of conversation and is constantly learning about humans. Carly coaches all of instructors in the methodology of this class to provide consistency.
Social classes satisfy BC’s curriculum/BC Ministry of Education for K–12 around communication studies through: acquiring and presenting information; focusing on intent and purpose in delivery; and connecting and engaging with others. *This class directly relates to the B.C. Government Education Curriculum under: Physical and Health Education Curricular Competencies, and Mental well-being and Social and community health. In particular we address communication skills, proposing and identifying strategies in social situations, self advocacy and group dynamics.
