2-4 hours per week. Homework will consist of: Regular piano practice: Focusing on assigned pieces, technical exercises, and theory concepts. Regular vocal practice: Working on assigned songs, vocal warm-ups, and exercises for technique development. Occasional theory, listening, or creative assignments: These might be related to music history, ear training, or short composition exercises, tailored to the student's interests and goals.
Assessment
Progress will be evaluated at each lesson and communicated to parents in written form.

Class Experience

This course is tailored for individuals who want to explore the joy of music through piano and voice – perfect for beginners or those looking to advance their skills.

In these personalized one-on-one sessions, students will embark on a musical journey customized to their unique talents and aspirations. The primary aim of this course is to guide students in mastering the essentials of both piano and voice:

    Piano: Note reading, technique, rhythm, expression, and music theory.
    Voice: Breath control, vocal technique, tone production, diction, and musical expression

Course materials will be selected based on the student's current proficiency level and interests, ensuring a comfortable and engaging learning experience. Some of the resources we may use include:

    Piano: Faber and Faber (for beginners), A Dozen a Day Series (for technical exercises), Easy Piano Classics (for exploring a variety of musical styles)
    Voice: The Contemporary Singer (for vocal exercises), Songs from musicals, classical art songs, or popular repertoire (for performance practice)

The course structure is designed to offer individualized instruction and personal attention. Each session will be thoughtfully crafted to address the unique needs and objectives of the student, with time divided between piano and vocal development. Whether you dream of playing your favorite songs, singing with confidence, or mastering the intricacies of classical music, this course will set you on the path to achieving your musical goals.
Learning Goals
Students will learn:

    Music Theory: How to read and write music notation, understanding rhythm, melody, and basic harmony.
    Piano Technique: The foundations of healthy piano technique, including proper hand position, finger coordination, and developing strength and dexterity.
    Vocal Technique: The basics of healthy vocal production, breath support, posture, tone development, and diction.
    Ear Training: How to recognize pitches, intervals, and basic chords, improving aural skills for both singing and piano.
    Musicianship: Developing a sense of musical phrasing, expression, and style in both vocal and piano performance.

Supply List
The Student must have a piano or keyboard to practice on. Materials will be assigned after the first class based on student ability and interest. A book of staff paper will also be recommended after the first lesson.
