US Grade 3 - 12
Students have a lot of flexibility in this class. Students will choose a book that they'd like to read or have been assigned at school and complete a book study on the book. The student will learn the context of the book and necessary vocabulary. They will have comprehension questions and writing assignments. Before the class the parent or student should contact the teacher to discuss the specifics of a personal book study plan for the student. Some suggested readings are: The Great Gatsby, Hamlet, The Outsiders, Raisin in the Sun, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Kite Runner, The House on Mango Street, A Long Walk to Water, Anne Frank, Night, The House on Mango Street and Esperanza Rising
Learning Goals
The teacher and student will discuss the best measurement for assessment.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Some of the books may contain discussion of violence, sexuality or foul language, however, parents get to choose which book they are comfortable with.
