Homework
1 hour per week. The writing component can also be finished in the time after the final session, depending on the fluency of the writer. Learners would submit their finished work to me, and from that date I would return the written summary of levels within a week after the homework was submitted. Please note that this is intended as independent work - the learner must complete it by themselves (no parent help) to provide accurate data.
Assessment
There are four assessments offered during class time (see 'Homework' for the writing assessment that may be in their own time).
Grading
New Zealand Curriculum levels will be provided in the written summary. Please note that these levels will be based purely on the assessments given, and that this may vary slightly from ongoing formative assessments that teachers conduct during school terms.

Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Live in New Zealand or moving there? Want to have an idea of where your learner will fit into the New Zealand Curriculum? Over four 1:1 sessions*, I will assess the learner's literacy and maths levels and give you a written summary of where they sit in the New Zealand public schooling system.

This is a great option for those moving to NZ, or those in NZ who want an idea of their learner's current level. I offer tutoring classes as well, and can use these assessments to support targeted learning in these tutoring sessions.

What to expect:
Meeting 1: Introductions, first reading assessment (phonemic awareness and phoneme-grapheme relationships)
Meeting 2: Second reading assessment (vocabulary and comprehension)
Meeting 3: Maths assessment (knowledge and strategy)
Meeting 4: Writing assessment (nonfiction and/or fiction depending on how long the learner needs to write)

The written summary would then be returned to you within a week of the final assessment.

Please reach out if you have any questions or queries. I look forward to meeting your learner soon!

*this class is for 4 sessions only. Please enquire for ongoing tutoring. The four sessions can all be in one week depending on availability, or across a maximum of 4 weeks in order to provide relevant data

I absolutely love teaching primary-aged children! I have worked alongside literacy experts in my educational leadership roles and am very experienced in extending gifted learners beyond the scope of their current grade level, as well as accelerating progress for those who need an extra boost. When I read my students' writing, this brings me so much joy, especially when I start to see their personal voice shine. I also thoroughly enjoy seeing a learner's "lightbulb moment" in maths, when a new concept clicks into place and light up from the inside! A student must feel successful in order to stay motivated in their learning journey.

I have several years of classroom experience delivering carefully planned, targeted curriculum to children in primary/elementary schools in New Zealand. My other specialties are literature, ESOL, mathematics, visual arts, and social-emotional skills. I also have experience teaching the Montessori Method, reflected in my calm and caring teaching persona.
