Classic stories filled with adventure offer a great way for students to improve their reading skills, enrich their vocabulary, and develop critical thinking skills! Each week students will read a different story out loud and discuss the meaning of the story. By having students read out loud these stories we are able to assist with word pronunciation and meaning. After reading the story of the week, students will analyze the story with the goal of taking a closer look at the morals and how they are relevant in society today. For homework, students will have an opportunity to either write a summary or write a reflection on the story. These private lessons are designed to build reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, literary analysis skills, and vocabulary. Class Overview: - Welcome & Share - Read Out Loud - Vocabulary exploration as we read - Summarize events as we read - Discuss the morals - Write a short response which incudes a summary and the significance (one paragraph to one page) Some of our Books for ages 10-12: - The Enchanted Chest - Oothar the Blue - Robin Hood - Moby Dick (adaptation) - Treasure Island (adaptation) - The Three Musketeers (adaptation) - King Arthur (adaptation) - The Secret Garden (adaptation) - Alice in Wonderland (adaptation) Some of our Books for ages 12-14: - Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief - The Maze Runner All writing is done online. We do not send material that requires being printed. Stories are shared as digital files; however, families are welcome to access stories via their local library if they prefer. Pre-requisite: Students should be comfortable typing online and have basic computer skills (ability to click a link, minimized windows on screen as needed). We cannot accept material written on paper or shared with the teacher via photo, scan, or pdf. *** For tips on rescheduling, setting recurring lessons, or canceling please see the attachment in our welcome section ***

Teacher expertise and credentials
Ms. Rae love's reading. She grew up with a passion for old literature (probably the only 8th Grader in my school reading Agatha Christie novels for fun) and fairytales. One of her favorite classes in college was a study of fairytales and fables. She is an avid reader and participates in many literacy enrichment programs online and in public schools. She holds a TESOL certification and helps both adults and children with reading comprehension.
