In ensuring accessibility in writing for all learners, we open a whole world up for self expression. In this class, I act as a scribe for students who need it. If you have trouble with spelling, typing, or handwriting, I am here to help. You can dictate your ideas to me, and I will write them down for you. This way, you can focus on expressing yourself without worrying about the mechanics of writing or typing. We also employ a variety of tools and approaches to make writing more convenient and pleasant. For example, we employ graphic organizers to help you organize your ideas before you begin writing. We also work on employing assistive technology, such as speech-to-text software and spell-check, to help you overcome typical obstacles. These techniques may be less useful for students who cannot use speech-to-text aids. In that case, we will scribe for you. Using a screen reader works as well for reading back text and this can also be helpful. Overall, my goal is to help you become a more confident and effective writer, no matter what your learning style may be. I believe that everyone has something valuable to say, and I am here to help you share your ideas with the world. This semester-long project-based course will focus on learners' abilities, with the goal of producing two works of writing. This can be of any genre, and we can also provide a deep-dive, interest-based experience! We can incorporate research skills like summarizing, citations, illustrations, and charts into the process. Additionally, we will explore the editing and revising process to help students develop their writing skills further. We will create a piece of writing following this weekly schedule: First week: Brainstorming piece 2. Planning an outline 3. Writing 4. Writing 5. Reading aloud and revising 6. Edit piece one 7. Brainstorming piece two 8. Planning & outline 9. Writing 10. Writing 11. Reading aloud and revising 12. Edit piece two Learners may opt to do a single piece in greater detail if they prefer. Hello! My name is Carly, and I am the founder of ARI Learning.
I’m a proud graduate of the University of Victoria’s School of Child and Youth Care. I have always been passionate about working with children and youth, and this degree program provided me with knowledge of the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of young people. When teaching, I use a multidisciplinary approach, focused on relationship building, to support holistic development alongside academic achievement.
In addition to my formal education, I’ve also gained valuable experience through my seven years of online teaching. I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of students and families, who have taught me the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. It was through building relationships with my learners and their parents that I realized my own ADHD, the unknown reason why improving education is so important to me.
As an educator, I am dedicated to providing an inclusive learning environment that meets the needs of all learners. I believe that every student has the right to access quality education that is tailored to their unique abilities and learning styles.
This means creating classrooms that are welcoming, safe, and respectful of all students, in ways that enhance their abilities & neuro-specializations.
