Description

Class Experience

Teenagers tend to have big dreams, big plans, and lots of different interests. They also tend to be forgetful and procrastinate doing tedious, yet important work. This is where the 10th Grade Milestone Checklist for College-Bound Students comes in handy. This editable checklist is designed to be thought-provoking while you take stock of the year ahead of (or behind) you. Do you have what it takes to be admitted into the school of your dreams? If not, what are you going to do about it? There is still time. Remember, students with Big Dreams need Big Plans to make them come true. I'm here to help!
Sophomore Year is a time of pivotal change for many students. Kids this age still rely heavily on family interactions but, over the course of the year, become more independent and have more demands on their time between school, work, friends, and sports obligations. Ideally, a 10th grade student has selected an appropriate Program of Studies for their high school career, and if not, now is the time to do so. For many students, this is a period of great maturity as they learn to balance the demands of being a young adult and the responsibilities that come with it.

As an educator with over 25 years of experience, and as the mother of two amazing adult daughters, I've helped several thousand students and families plan for a successful high school career and beyond. During my tenure as a high school guidance counselor in Rhode Island and Florida, I typically managed over 350 students per year in grades 9-12.... with every caliber of student. Each grade has its own curriculum to address social, emotional as well as educational needs. I am familiar with all of the "seasons" of the high school student, what needs to be done when, and where to find the necessary resources. And if I don't know the answer, one of my colleagues does! My expertise, along with my ability to easily connect with teenagers from all cultures, is what makes this type of class an enjoyable 45 minutes as students are empowered to forge their own path in life.
Students will receive an editable 10th Grade checklist to help them identify expected milestones. Students will also receive an editable Brag Sheet to keep track of all achievements throughout the school year.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
