Class Experience

-Students will work with other learners to complete projects, building collaboration skills.
-Students will exercise critical thinking skills to ensure the group's survival in the realm and to complete building projects.
-Students will build social skills and exercise problem-solving strategies.
All students will need to purchase a Minecraft (Java Edition) account. When that is done students should send the teacher their gamertag to receive an invite to the realm server where all classes will take place. This server will only be accessible with Minecraft Java Edition, no other versions will work. The student must be using a webcam, headphones, to communicate with other learners, as well as a keyboard, computer, and mouse. A second screen (ie phone or tablet) to use for zoom might also be useful so the student can see their game and the other students in class at the same time.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Minecraft contains fantasy violence that includes hunting and destroying monsters. Common Sense Media recommends ages 7 and up for this game. Students will be playing on a realm hosted by the teacher and only actions on this realm will be monitored by the teacher. I will only be responding to messages through Outschool + Zoom, students should not be sending messages through Minecraft. I also would advise that students review internet safety procedures and never disclose private information to any of the other students in class.

Students may need assistance from their parents for the initial set of Minecraft on their computer.

NOTE: Students that are disrupting the learning experience of other students will be removed from the server. This includes and is not limited to:
-Destroying something they did not build
-Using game mechanics to grief another student
-Using hacked clients to get around the restrictions on the server
-Taking materials/weapons without permission
-Cursing or inappropriate name-calling
Minecraft Java Edition will be used for this class.

About Me

Welcome, I am new to Outschool but not new to teaching! I've been teaching for the past 6 years to age groups 6-12 and have enjoyed every bit of it. Here I provide classes and clubs for students to practice their social skills and learn the basics...
