(10-13) Dungeons and Dragons Beginners' Adventuring Party
In this ongoing club, learners who are brand new or new-ish to D&D will create and play characters through which they will navigate a fantasy world: making friends, fighting monsters, and exploring who they are both in and out of character.

Welcome to the Dungeons and Dragons multiverse, where anything is possible and where your choices actively change the world around you! RPGs are all about collaborative storytelling, and I am excited to see the story we make together! While the overarching story will carry over from week to week, players are welcome to join and leave at any time, as in any epic story, allies can appear or disappear at unexpected times. Our story, the story that we will create together, will involve fighting monsters, finding treasures, exploring ruins, meeting interesting people, uncovering evil plots, and becoming local heroes. It may even include becoming legendary heroes known throughout the world! This will not be a class so much as a club, made for brand-new and new-ish players of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. We will meet weekly to play within an original campaign setting, where together we will become comfortable with the mechanics and gameplay, and at the same time, we will be fashioning a fantastical story. We will work on building characters and leveling them up, understanding which dice to use and when, learning how spellcasting works, getting used to combat mechanics, and becoming comfortable with getting into character and role-playing. The timeline and content of the different sessions will vary based on the students' desires and in-character decisions. The first meeting will be focused on building characters, and the following meetings will follow a traditional D&D-style adventure. When a learner joins the club after it has already begun, I will work with them one-on-one outside of meeting times via classroom messaging to create a character, including race, class, background, backstory, appearance, and how to introduce them to the party. No prior experience is needed, just a desire to learn and play. However, students who have never played at all are encouraged to take my course on learning the basics in more of a class-like setting if that would help them feel more comfortable.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Dungeons and Dragons involves themes of fantasy violence, including the use of weapons to fell enemies.
The Dungeons and Dragons universe contains several pantheons of deities that may help or harm mortals.
The deaths of player characters and/or non-player characters are a possibility in any game of Dungeons and Dragons. I do not intend on it happening, but just as in real life, accidents and tragedies can happen in the fantasy realm.
Supply List
I will provide character-creation materials. Learners will need their own dice, but there are plenty of good online dice rollers if learners do not have physical dice.
