Course Overview: In this camp, students will read excerpts from intriguing literature, poetry, novels, and nonfiction texts. The teacher will guide students through focused, “bite-sized” passages and skills-based instruction. I have a B.S. degree in English Education and English Literature and have taught ELA in the secondary classroom for over ten years.
Homework Offered
All reading will occur in class under the guidance and support of the teacher. Texts excerpts will be provided digitally via the Outschool classroom and/or during class via screen share. Reading is encouraged between classes (for homework) to practice the skills, but is optional.Assessments Offered
The teacher will informally and frequently assess the students throughout class to ensure comprehension and mastery of the skills. Assessment may look like multiple choice questions, select the best quote/line from the text, open-ended questions, or free response questions. Students will answer verbally and/or in written form through the Zoom chat.Grades Offered

Parental Guidance: Some content in the texts we will read include mature or thematic elements. The teacher has selected texts that are typically considered appropriate for the middle/early high school age range. Parents are encouraged to view the upcoming texts and communicate with the teacher about any questions or concerns.
We will read excerpts from classic literature, nonfiction informational articles, and historical texts such as American presidential speeches or speeches from other prominent public figures. Please view the class description for the list of texts.
