In the “Simple Songwriting Summer Camp” students will learn the basics of songwriting. We will go over the parts of a song and talk about the elements that make a good song, good. Throughout the course we will focus on song structure and lyric creation. During our time together we will cover the following topics -Chord Progression -Song Structure -Styles of Songs -Functions of Songs -Lyric Development This course is all about learning by doing! At the start of class I will explain a concept, share a demonstration , and then we will work as a full group or in small groups to create. Each day there will be a new fun songwriting challenge for the class. There will also be an opportunity for students to perform their songs. At the conclusion of the class the students will receive a PDF and video compilation of some of their class creations. No prior songwriting experience is required, but each student should have an interest in music and enthusiasm about creative collaboration.

The teacher will provide materials that can be printed at home. All student are also expected to come to class with paper and a writing utensil.

Hello! My name is Ms. Edy ! I have a Bachelor of Science in Vocal Choral music Education, and I am in my 17th year as a certified K-12 music educator. I have taught, general music, as well as directed choir and theater. I am currently a classroom teacher in a K-3 multiage classroom. In total, I have worked with children for over 20 years in many capacities.
I believe music provides an outlet for self-expression, bridges cultural gaps, challenges the mind, soothes the soul and aids in communicating the incommunicable. Music is a gift that all students deserve to receive. Through the process of music education, students can uncover new interest and skills that otherwise would have remained unknown. I am here to provide classes for students to express and explore their musical talents and abilities. I also, plan to provide plant-based cooking classes as a way to support good vocal health.
