Students will be taught reading comprehension skills like chunking, inferring, using context clues, and predicting. Students will also be taught more about parts of speech such as pronouns and adverbs and how they function in reading. The session will start with a fun activity or game designed to engage the learner. Then the student will work actively 1 to 1 with a piece of reading and the goal for the week. The goal will either follow the schedule or be modified by a conversation between the guardian and the teacher. Students will be guided through materials with a model, guided, and independent flow of learning. Daily Schedule 5 minutes introductions/definitions 10 minutes activity or game to reinforce skills. 15 minutes of modeling and guided instruction on the skill for the day 25 minutes independent (teacher actively questioning, assisting, and praising) 5 minutes summary and conclusion November- week of 25th- Inferences December- Week of 1st - chunking week of 8th- context clues week of 15th-predictions (Guardians can adjust topics with the teacher via written communication)

Students infer using prior information and what they have read.

Parental Guidance
All reading will be age-appropriate and secular as per Outschool policy. Teacher does believe in inclusion and diversity when it comes to narrators in both Fiction and Nonfiction text.
Supply List
Students will need a reading notebook, binder, or folder with writing utensils.
