Episode Break Down of the American "The Office" (ages 14 - 18) Any fan of "The Office" will come to appreciate the detail that goes into filming a scene. I have a B. A. degree in film and television. In this class learners will dig deeper into episodes of "The Office." Learners will look at the different camera techniques used then discuss the reasons behind the technique. Learners will learn about dialogue subtext. Learning about dialogue subtext in film, teaches learners to read subtext in literature as well. The details in the background will be discussed. Fun office facts and fan favorite lines will be talked about. If your learner is looking into going to film school this class will help them to start thinking about film beyond the surface of a scene. "The Office" fans will enjoy learning about all the details that make this a popular television show. Each week the learner will come to class after viewing an episode of "The Office." We will breakdown what happened in the episode. The learner can talk about what they liked or disliked about the episode. At least one scene will be broken down from the episode. Lighting, dialogue, camera angle and background props will be discussed. Below is a breakdown of what episodes will be discussed each week: Week 1: Season One Episode One "The Pilot" The leaner will discuss what genre "The Office" falls into. Learn about the three major camera techniques used in the series. The leaner is encouraged to pay close attention to the "talking head" shots. The main characters and the beginning of their character journey is looked at. -- Watch Season Two Episode Fifteen "Boys and Girls" for next week. Week 2: Season Two Episode Fifteen "Boys and Girls" This week will focus on the kitchen scene between Jim and Pam. The dialogue subtext between Jim and Pam will be broken down. Pam's character arch in the episode will be discussed. --Watch Season Three Episode Twenty-Two "Beach Games" for next week. Week 3: Season Three Episode Twenty-Two "Beach Games" This week will focus on Pam's character arch and the role she plays on beach day. We will look at the camera picking up character reactions. We will discuss the importance of how a scene is edited. --Watch Season Four Episode Nine "Dinner Party" for next week. Week 4: Season Four Episode Nine "Dinner Party" This week will focus on the scene where Michael and Jan fight. The color scheme and background objects will be discussed.
