Assignments

Assessment
- Thorough evaluation of each student's current reading abilities and learning profile. - Identification of individual strengths and areas requiring improvement. - Assessment includes phonemic awareness, phonics, reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and writing skills. - Ongoing progress monitoring to track improvements and adjust instruction as needed. - Collaborative communication with parents and guardians to share assessment results and set clear learning goals. - Tailoring of lessons and materials based on assessment outcomes to meet student's specific needs.

Feel free to sign up for week-by-week or for the full course. Lessons will be added on a weekly basis, after an initial assessment in Week 1 or specific request.

Depending on the need, your learner's personalized reading lessons will have a some combination of these elements of reading instruction:

• Word Study

• Morphology (Prefixes, Suffixes, Root Words)
• Vocabulary

Learners who are reading below grade level often require intensive reading support. I offer 1 reading lesson per week that is targeted to your learner's needs. If your learner needs a more intensive reading intervention, consider signing up for my small group or 1:1 classes for additional live intervention.

T E A C H I N G   S T Y L E

I provide specialized reading tutoring, focusing on students with varying needs, including:

• dyslexia 
• those who are reading below their grade level. 

My approach is:

• a multi-sensory approach to reading 
• rooted in the principles of the science of reading 
• based in the Science of Reading which emphasizes explicit and systematic instruction

The first lesson will begin with an assessment of your learner's reading strengths and challenges. Based on this assessment, I'll develop a customized reading plan tailored to your learner's specific needs. 

Ongoing assessment and progress monitoring are fundamental aspects of my approach to ensure each student's steady progress. I continuously evaluate the effectiveness of my lessons, make necessary adjustments, and provide detailed progress reports.

As a special education teacher, I am committed is to helping students with diverse learning needs overcome reading challenges and build the confidence they need to excel in reading and in life.

This class is intentionally designed to support learners with unique needs such as dyslexia.
Parental Guidance
I may assign articles to practice comprehension through an external website called Readworks. I will set up an accout for your learner and provide the login information. If you would prefer not to have this account, please send me a message once you sign up for this class.
Pre-Requisites
Learners should be able to correctly spell at least 8 of the following words: glad, skip, stop, cake, dishes, robot, match, puppy, puzzle, hopeful
