1 to 1 instruction for K-2 reader using UFLI
In this 16-lesson class over 4 weeks, your child will work on phonemic awareness and phonics using explicit and systematic instruction using the UFLI curriclum.

Do you need individualized support for your struggling reader? The Science of Reading tells us that struggling readers typically struggle in Decoding or Language Comprehension. In this course, I will support your child's Decoding/Word Recognition knowledge to build their ability to read at grade level. During our first session, your child will be screened for letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and phonics. I will use a Structured Literacy approach to support your child at their level using the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) curriculum. Through this approach, my instruction will be explicit, sequential, and systematic. UFLI Foundations targets the following foundational reading skills: Phoneme blending and segmentation practice Accuracy and automaticity of grapheme-phoneme correspondences Decoding automaticity of words with previously learned concepts Explicit introduction of new concepts Decoding and encoding practice Reading and spelling irregular words Reading and spelling connected text In addition to our 16 sessions over the course of 4 weeks, I would like to have two 15 minute Parent/Teacher Conferences to discuss child's strengths and growth. A small white board and dry erase marker is required to participate. Please have your child seated ina a quiet space, at a desk or table with all supplies before class begins.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I am so excited to share my love of teaching beginning readers with the Outschool Community! I hold 2 Master's Degrees in Elementary Education and School Organizational Leadership. I have been a teacher and school administrator in a variety of K-8 schools throughout the US. I currently work as a Literacy Consultant with several school districts, in which I provide instructional coaching and professional development to help teachers improve their literacy instructional practices. Additionally, I work at the University level where I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Education and mentor new and developing teachers. Honestly, I miss working directly with young readers and would love to help your child build the foundation to develop a love for reading.
I have two teenage children of my own and in our free time we play all the sports, travel and go the beach!
