Beginner - Intermediate Level

Through an engaging, detective-themed narrative featuring Lexi Lingo and her sidekick Punctuation Pete, students will embark on an educational journey that not only enhances their phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, and inferencing skills but also cultivates critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, and deepens their appreciation for diverse perspectives in storytelling.
Students enrolled in this course will achieve mastery in the following key reading areas:

1. Phonemic Awareness and Phonics: Develop an acute awareness of phonemes and their manipulation to decode words, using engaging contexts and characters to reinforce learning.
2. Vocabulary Development: Enhance vocabulary through the exploration of synonyms, antonyms, homographs, homophones, and context clues within the captivating stories and challenges presented by the course.
3. Reading Comprehension Strategies: Master effective strategies for comprehension, including questioning for understanding, making inferences, summarizing text, and recognizing the author's purpose and point of view.
4. Critical Thinking and Analysis: Cultivate critical thinking skills by analyzing characters' perspectives, motives, and the impact of their actions within the narrative, applying these insights to real-world texts and situations.
5. Appreciation for Literature and Lifelong Reading: Develop a love for reading and an appreciation for literature through exposure to various genres and narratives that cater to diverse interests and reading levels. Encourage the habit of reading for pleasure and learning, highlighting the importance of selecting texts that resonate with the individual reader's interests and needs.

I can decode  multisyllabic words.  I know how to pronounce word parts.  I know how to separate syllables and correctly and automatically.  I have the courage to make and correct mistakes.

I can read words with automaticity, .  I can recognize Greek and Latin roots and their meanings. I can read fluently and with expression.

Learning Needs

This class is for children who: -don't know how or are just learning to read -don't like to read -have lots of energy -are easily distracted -have difficulty differentiating letters and sounds -avoid reading -lack confidence to read

Pre-Requisites

Students who enroll should know how to: -Recite, read, and write the alphabet in order -Recognize most letter sounds -navigate a computer with little assistance
