In this 12-lesson class over 4 weeks or 12 lessons over 6 weeks, students will work on phonemic awareness and phonics with the Barton Reading and Spelling Program.

During the first session, your student will be screened for letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and placement for the Barton Reading and Spelling System, which is an Orton-Gillingham based program. Homework Offered
A student login for Hearbuilder will be provided to parents if it would be beneficial. I encourage parents to log in to Hearbuilder with their children daily to help them work on phonemic and phonetic awareness, sequencing, auditory memory, and direction following outside of class time. Online games on Wordwall and additional at-home activities will be provided after each meeting. These activities are designed to fit the scope and sequence of the curriculum and are customized for your learner's specific educational needs. Learners and parents need to be prepared to work on assigned activities daily to get the most benefit from tutoring.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

A small white board, dry erase marker, and eraser. A computer, preferably with mouse and earphones/headset with microphone. iPads and touch screen devices often do not work well with required online manipulatives and games.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Phonics lessons will take place on Google Jamboard, Whizzimo, Barton approved PDFs, or decodable readers. Brain breaks, in the form of reading games, will be on quizlet, bartongames, Hearbuilder, or Pixton. Selected and reviewed read aloud picture books will be on Kindle Reader for a reward at the end of our session. I will be providing a Hearbuilder login to parents for students who need extra work on phonemic awareness, auditory/visual memory, and direction following on their own time. I encourage parents to login to this app with their learner on a daily basis.
