1 on 1 Tutoring - Let's Learn Together! | Full Curriculum 2nd Grade ELA

In this semester long (12 week) class, we will cover the full core ELA curriculum for 2nd grade, in a 1 on 1 setting. All of the lessons will be tailored and personalized to meet the needs of your learner!

In this 12 week ELA core curriculum class, we will be focused on growing in our confidence and strength as readers and writers. Learners will be giving all of the tools to grow in their ability to write and read with the goal of improving on reading fluency, comprehension, grammar structure, writing style strength, and more.


Our weekly breakdown will go as follows: 

Week 1 - Reading and comprehension in literature (fictional) / phonics: long and short vowels

Week 2- Reading and comprehension in literature (fictional) / phonics: long and short vowels

Week 3- Reading and comprehension in informational text (non fictional) / phonics: decode regularly spelled two-syllable words with long vowels

Week 4- Reading and comprehension in informational text (non fictional) / phonics: decode regularly spelled two-syllable words with long vowels

Week 5- Identifying and decoding text features / phonics: identify words with inconsistent but common spelling-sound correspondences

Week 6- Identifying the main idea and decoding the text for comprehension / phonics: identify words with inconsistent but common spelling-sound correspondences

Week 7- Jumping into writing: short narratives / phonics: spelling-sound correspondences for additional common vowel teams

Week 8- Jumping into writing: teamwork building with writing directions / phonics: sound correspondences for additional common vowel teams

Week 9- Focusing on grammar and punctuation / phonics: decode words with common prefixes and suffixes

Week 10- Focusing on grammar and punctuation / phonics: decode words with common prefixes and suffixes

Week 11- Identifying writing style / practicing short response writing

Week 12- Identifying the meaning or "theme" in text / practicing with summarization

Throughout this class, we will be reading / listening to a variety of books (both fictional and non fictional)

"Getting to know... Nature's Children" by Scholastic (learners will get to choose which animal they'd like to read about)

"Where Does the Butterfly go When it Rains?" by May Garelick

"Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" by Mo Willems

"Landforms and Weather" by the Clever Factory 

"The Nose Book" by Al Perkins 

"Old Hat, New Hat" by Stan and Jan Berenstain

"Our Class is a Family" by Shannon Olsen 

"We're All Wonders" by R.J. Palacio

"Llama Llama Loves to Read" by Anna Dewdney

"The Magician's Hat" by Malcolm Mitchell 

"Roy Digs Dirt" by David Shannon

Supply List
Learners will need to have a lined paper notebook, or a composition book. (as long as it is lined paper- it works!) 

Learners may need to be able to print out worksheets prior to class, which will be sent out in the classroom prior to the class in which this applies. Not all class meetings will require print outs.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

- I have 7 years of experience teaching preschool, and I have experience with teaching 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade!
